Arc 1 - First Five: Chapter 1

WooAnna was born into a family of ethnic origins with a father, mother and siblings. Her first five years were lived in various places and her family went through a lot of struggles. There were financial challenges that limited the amount of food they could eat each day and there were instances when going to bed hungry was an occasional scenario. Among financial struggles, her parents tried to keep things normal in life but dysfunction in the home was more the norm.

WooAnna and her siblings played outside and also gathered with relatives for events and birthdays, but it did not take away the painful circumstances of watching her parents argue over money. When things got too difficult, her dad would become angry with her mom and going outside to play was not permitted. This caused WooAnna to find ways to play within the home, sometimes by herself, other times with her siblings. But there were a good amount of moments that the yelling within the home was too much, and WooAnna and her siblings would just remain in their rooms.

As a little five-year old, WooAnna could only think of going to school to escape the pain of hearing yelling about money. Her thoughts were consumed with the idea that money was bad but it seemed to be needed to get by in life. If only her parents would have more of it and not fight so much over it. This started the belief in WooAnna’s mind that life is not worth living unless there was a lot of money. Even though she was little and did not fully understand the power money held, it was slowly becoming an idol within her heart (1 Timothy 6:10) that not even she knew was growing, among other harmful ideas that would later be cultivated.
